Pregnancy and Obstetrics.
As a GP without additional training I unable to provide care during deliveries nor am I able to routinely monitor your pregnancy past 20 weeks.
Instead I work with our care groups to help you chose and arrange your care in the way you would like. I will continue to see you for non pregnancy related matters and after the birth.
Please see these resources to understand how I can help care for you during your pregnancy.

There are three types of ante natal care you can choose from.

Midwives are allied health care professionals specializing in natural birth and follow up.
They offer full service antenatal care and will refer to physicians if your situation demands it. They can support home or hospital births.
Our local group is Sage:
-
The Nanaimo Maternity group is made up of GP’s with additional skills. They can look after you throughout pregnancy and birth.
More information can be found: -
Our specialist OB/GYN’s provide exceptional antenatal care and are often chosen or referred to for complicated or higher risk pregnancies.
I can facilitate a referral to them for care.Post birth either a Paediatric specialist or I (if there are no concerns) your GP can monitor and look after the baby.
-
After the birth you and your baby are usually looked after by your ante natal provider for up to six weeks. There are exceptions in the event of complexity and this might be managed by the hospital, or a paediatrician.
After 6 weeks if there are no concerns you would revert to you GP’s care. -
Unfortunately not all pregnancies are viable either from an early medical complication or from our stage in life.
In this case I am very happy to help you through the process providing wrap around care and supporting anything that might be needed.
